Claire Sawyers

Cultivating a Sense of Place
Claire Sawyers has been director of the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College, regarded by some as 'the most beautiful campus in America,' since 1990. She grew up on a dairy farm in Missouri, and has worked in Japan, Belgium, and France. She holds Master's degrees from both Purdue University in horticulture and the University of Delaware where she was a Longwood Fellow. Her book, The Authentic Garden: Five Principles for Cultivating Place is in its second printing.



Ruth Baumgardner

Put "OOOs and AAAhs" Outdoors
Ruth Baumgardner
and her husband own Mouse Creek (Nursery) Perennial Farm, in Riceville, Tennessee, which specializes in growing more than 800 varieties of hardy herbaceous perennials and a large selection of herbs and unusual annuals. She is past president of the Perennial Plant Association and a regular contributor to the Tennessee Gardener magazine.



Brooks Garcia

Essentials of Garden Design
Brooks Garcia, a native of Atlanta, has been gardening for almost 35 years. After graduating the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's of Landscape Architecture, he studied classical garden design in Europe. He is the principal designer of Fine Gardens, a garden design firm established in 1989 that specializes in custom residential gardens. His garden has been featured in Garden Design and Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles and on HGTV's, 'A Gardener's Diary'.



Terry May

Perennial Care: What Really Counts
Terry May
is the founder of Horticulture Inc., which specializes in landscape design, installation and consulting, with an emphasis on low maintenance and high impact landscapes. Terry received his Bachelor's in horticulture from the University of Georgia and a Master's in horticulture from Washington State University, with a focus on plant physiology. Terry is known as Atlanta's pruning guru.



Mildred Pinnell Fockele

Joyful Color and Texture in Every Season
Mildred Pinnell Fockele lives in Gainesville, Georgia, where her well-maintained home collector's garden features strong woodland elements and innovative plant combinations. She has worked at the Atlanta Botanical Garden since 1986 where she is Horticulture Director. Mildred also oversees the development of Gainesville's 185-acre Smithgall Woodland Garden, complete with greenhouse and field nursery.
