About Georgia Perennial Plant Association
The GPPA was founded in 1987 by Bill Funkhouser and a group of trade professionals (A botany professor, landscape designers, owners of design companies, recent horticulture graduates, and master gardeners). They were responding to a lack of understanding of the holistic aspect of garden design in their local community. Most people at the time regularly used shrubs, trees, and annuals, but had little knowledge or awareness of perennials. Their goal was to inspire better design by educating the public and the horticulture community at large on perennials and how they are incorporated into the garden.

Today GPPA's focus has expanded to educating on holistic garden design, providing knowledge on the broader horticulture ecosystem, specifically landscape design, and building community to help bring together gardeners and trade professionals, sharing knowledge, and their garden experiences.
